Acceptable Proof of Address Documents

Families may provide one of the following documents as proof

  •  Property Tax Bill – for the residence      (current).
  • Water Bill – must be dated within the      past 90 days.
  • Rent Receipt – must include the address      of the residence and be dated within the past 60 days.
  • Government-Issued Identification – state, city, or other      government ID (including an IDNYC card) that is unexpired and      includes the address of the residence.

  • Official Payroll Documentation – issued within the past 60      days (such as a pay stub with home address, a tax withholding      form, or payroll receipt).
    • Note: A letter on employer       letterhead is not adequate.
  • Voter Registration Documents – must include the parent’s      name and address of residence.
  • Unexpired Membership Documents – based on residency (such      as a neighborhood resident’s association), showing the parent’s name and      address of residence.

Family Welcome Centers (FWCs) serve New York City families year-round with enrollment and admissions by appointment.  FWCs can support with:

  • Enrollment: Assistance with enrolling your child in New York City public schools.
  • Transfers:  Help with transferring your child to another New York City public school.
  • Applications:  Support applying for 3-K, Pre-K, Kindergarten, Middle, and High School


How to Get Help

This section explains how to enroll at your zoned school, make appointments with Family Welcome Centers, and view their operating hours.


Enrolling at your zoned school:

Most elementary and middle school students can enroll directly at their zoned school, without having to visit a Family Welcome Center. To find your zoned school, follow these instructions:

  1. Visit schoolsearch.schools.nyc and enter your address in the School Name or Address search bar.
  2. In the Grade dropdown, choose your child's grade level.
  3. In the Borough dropdown, select the borough where you live.
  4. Click the Search button.
  5. Look for zoned schools under "Current Zoned Schools."
